History
The Ballinasloe Horse Fair is one of the oldest fairs in Ireland, once renowned as the largest and greatest in all of Europe.  In its heyday the October Fair was an agricultural event, it was refered to in the London Times in the early 1800's as the "Great Cattle Fair" of Ballinasloe.   It is only since the early twentieth century that the fair became associated with the horse as it is today.

Traditional Horse Fair held on the Fair Green, open air music, street entertainment for all the family.  Market Stalls on the street all day. Horse of the Fair Green Lunging competition, Pony Lunging Competition and much more...
Today over 80,000 horse lovers visit Ballinasloe during the festivities of the fair.  The usually quiet town of Ballinasloe is transformed into a sea of horses trucks, trailers, horse floats and people.
